Alex Shelley is an American professional wrestler currently wrestling for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling where he is a former TNA X Division Champion. He previously gained fame on the independent circuit, working most notably for Ring of Honor, as well as in Japan, for New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he once held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship with Chris Sabin, whom he currently teams with in TNA as the MotorCity Machineguns
It’s official! From Impact Wrestling’s Twitter account, they official announced who Austin Aries picked as Shelley’s opponent for this upcoming Impact! It will be Zema Ion vs Alex Shelley. If Shelley wins, he will face Aries for the X Division Championship.
X Division Champion Austin Aries comes out to the ring. He apologized to the fans for sounding like a broken record as he’s been bored with the competition in the X Division. He has beaten all the X Division wrestlers in the back and he doesn’t know what to do anymore. Then the familiar gun shooting sound effect is heard loudly in the Impact Zone. We see the “long time, no see” Alex Shelley. This was his first appearance on Impact in over 4 months. Shelley recaps 2011 for the Motor City Machine Guns. Since Sabin’s injury, he wanted to wait for him so the both of them can return to Impact together. However, Shelley misses wrestling as he grew up with it since he was a little kid. He asked Sabin if he could return without him, and Sabin was fine with it. He then insults Aries which made both of them trade insults to each other. Shelley then challenges Aries for the title shot. Aries, however, thinks he’s not worthy of a title shot as he has not earned his title shot. They both decide that it will be Shelley vs an opponent of Aries’s choosing next week on Impact Wrestling.
Fans of Impact Wrestling were excited to see his return. So many of them were excited that for a while “Alex Shelley” was trending on Twitter. The highest it got to was #1 Worldwide”. I managed to get a screenshot of him trending in the United States.
